Description
The Johansson 4003 is a plug-and-play optical headend transmitter that accepts two Wideband or Quattro satellite RF inputs and one CATV input, then converts them to a single optical output carrying three wavelengths simultaneously (1310 nm, 1330 nm, and 1550 nm). This makes it possible to distribute satellite and CATV signals over a single fiber to multiple optical receivers.
Built-in Automatic Gain Control (AGC, 15 dB) and Automatic Slope Control (ASC, 10 dB) continuously adjust the output to maintain optimal signal quality regardless of input level variations. The transmitter is compatible with optical networks scaled from small (up to 64 splits) through medium (up to 255 splits) to very large (more than 2000 splits) deployments.
Key Features
- RF inputs: 2 x Satellite F-connector (Wideband or Quattro) and 1 x CATV F-connector
- SAT input frequency range: 290–2340 MHz (Wideband) / 950–2150 MHz (Quattro)
- CATV input frequency range: 47–1218 MHz
- 1 optical output (SC/APC) with three simultaneous wavelengths: 1310, 1330, and 1550 nm
- Optical output power: 9 dBm per wavelength
- Automatic Gain Control (AGC): 15 dB range
- Automatic Slope Control (ASC): 10 dB range
- DC supply SAT: 18 V / 400 mA; DC supply CATV: 12 V / 200 mA
- DC input: 20 V / 1.5 A via F-type connector (requires external 20 V / 3 A power supply, ref. 2460, not included)
Product Benefits
- Three wavelengths on one fiber allow separate SAT and CATV signals to reach optical receivers without additional multiplexers
- AGC compensates for input level variations of up to 15 dB, ensuring stable optical output without manual adjustment
- ASC corrects the frequency slope of the input signal for flatter output across the entire bandwidth
- Plug-and-play design minimises installation time — no complex alignment or calibration required
- Scalable architecture supports everything from a single building to large multi-dwelling installations with more than 2000 optical splits

Why You'll Love It
- AGC and ASC work automatically — once installed, the transmitter self-adjusts to maintain output quality without manual intervention
- A single fiber from the headend replaces multiple coaxial cables, reducing installation complexity and cost
- The SC/APC optical output is compatible with the full range of Johansson optical receivers and splitters
- Scales from small residential blocks to large hospitality or MDU (multi-dwelling unit) networks with the same hardware
