Conduit bends are pre-formed fittings that allow an electrical conduit run to change direction — typically 90° around a corner or 45° to offset around an obstacle — without kinking the conduit or creating a bend radius that is too tight for cables. Using pre-formed bends rather than cold-bending rigid conduit gives a consistent internal radius, making cable pulling easier and reducing the risk of insulation damage. A 90° bend (elbow) turns the conduit run at a right angle — ideal for routing around corners of walls or ceilings. A 45° bend creates a gentler change of direction and is typically used in pairs to create a saddle offset, allowing the run to go around a pipe, beam, or other obstacle while staying parallel to the original route. Using 45° bends also produces a larger internal cable pull radius compared to a single 90°, which can be advantageous for larger-diameter cables.

Pre-formed conduit bends are designed primarily for use with rigid PVC conduit systems. They are not intended to connect to flexible conduit directly — where rigid and flexible sections meet, a specific adaptor or coupler is used instead. Conduit bends are typically available in standard metric sizes to match common rigid PVC conduit diameters — most commonly 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 32 mm, and 40 mm nominal outside diameter. PVC conduit bends are inherently resistant to moisture and corrosion, making them suitable for use in damp locations such as bathrooms, garages, and outdoor under-cover installations when used with appropriately rated conduit and sealed fittings. For fully exposed outdoor runs subject to UV radiation, check that the specific bend is rated for outdoor use — some standard PVC grades can become brittle with prolonged sun exposure. Using fully sealed systems with rated Couplings & Fittings is essential for ingress-protection compliance.

Conduit bends have plain socket or spigot ends that are designed to push-fit or solvent-weld directly into standard conduit couplings and straight lengths. For permanent installations, a PVC conduit solvent cement ensures a watertight, mechanically strong joint. For accessible or inspection points, plain push-fit joints without cement can be used.
