Residual Current Devices (RCCB) – Earth-Leakage Protection

A residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) is a critical safety device in any modern electrical installation. It continuously monitors the balance of current flowing through live and neutral conductors: when a fault or earth-leakage current exceeds the rated sensitivity (typically 10 mA, 30 mA, or 100 mA), the RCCB trips within milliseconds — protecting people from electrocution and reducing the risk of electrical fires. At Lynk.gr we carry a carefully selected range of RCCBs in 2-pole and 4-pole configurations to suit single-phase and three-phase installations.

Choosing the Right RCCB Sensitivity

The 30 mA sensitivity is the standard for personal protection in domestic circuits — it trips fast enough to prevent a lethal shock. A 100 mA or 300 mA RCCB is used for equipment protection and fire prevention on larger circuits where a 30 mA device would nuisance-trip too easily. Always match the sensitivity to the circuit's intended application and the requirements of local electrical regulations.

2-Pole vs 4-Pole RCCBs

2-pole RCCBs protect single-phase (L+N) circuits and are standard in most residential consumer units. 4-pole models protect three-phase (3L+N) circuits, commonly used in commercial premises, three-phase appliances, and industrial sub-boards. Both types should be used alongside MCBs (Circuit Breakers) to provide both overload/short-circuit and earth-fault protection.
