Illuminated Rocker Switches: Buying Guide
A carefully selected range of illuminated rocker switches makes it easy to see at a glance whether a circuit is live — day or night. The built-in LED indicator glows when the switch is on, eliminating guesswork in control panels, marine helm stations, automotive dashboards, caravans and home installations. With standard mounting footprints and a wide choice of voltages, colours and contact configurations, there is a rocker here for virtually every switching task.
Voltage and contact configurations
Illuminated rocker switches are available for 12V DC, 24V DC and 230V AC circuits, so they suit everything from a boat's 12V auxiliary panel to a mains-powered domestic enclosure. Contact configurations range from simple SPST (single pole, single throw) on/off to SPDT (single pole, double throw) for changeover duties. Always verify the rated current and voltage of the switch against your application before wiring.
LED indicator colours and visibility
The LED indicator is integral to the rocker body and typically draws only a few milliamps, adding negligible load to the circuit. Red, green, blue, amber and white indicator colours are common in this range. Choose red or amber for warning circuits, green for safe/on status, and blue or white where a modern aesthetic is needed. The illuminated rocker is especially practical in low-light environments such as marine night helm, caravan interiors and rack-mounted equipment.
Panel mounting and form factor
Most rockers in this range use a standard rectangular snap-in cut-out — typically 19×13mm or 21×15mm — and secure with plastic tabs for tool-free installation in thin panels. Check the cut-out dimensions and panel thickness in the product datasheet before ordering. For trunking, terminals and other panel wiring accessories, browse Cable Management.
Wiring and installation tips
Connect the illuminated rocker according to the manufacturer's wiring diagram: most three-terminal rockers have a common, a load and an LED supply pin. Ensure the LED supply pin is connected to the same polarity as the load for the indicator to light correctly. Use correctly rated wire and protect the circuit with an appropriate fuse.
