For most home hi-fi and home cinema runs up to about 5 m, 1.5 mm² (approximately 14 AWG) is adequate. For longer runs over 8 m, or amplifiers driving 4 Ω speakers, use 2.5 mm² or 4 mm² to keep resistance low.

Strip about 10–15 mm of insulation from each conductor, twist the strands tightly, and insert into the binding post hole or wrap around the post before tightening the cap. Always connect red (+) to red (+) and black (−) to black (−) at both amplifier and speaker for correct phase.
