A patch panel is where your permanent in-wall cabling terminates. From there you use short patch leads to connect to a switch, so you never disturb the fixed wiring. It keeps the rack tidy, makes labelling easy and simplifies changes. It works hand in hand with your Network Switches inside a rack.
