Collection: Switch Boxes

It is the box set into or onto the wall that holds a switch or socket and houses the wiring behind it. The faceplate then fixes to the box, often with a Wall Plate Frame for a clean finish.

Flush boxes recess into the wall for the neatest look but need a recess cut, while surface boxes sit on top and are quicker where chasing is not practical. Choose based on your wall and finish.

Gang refers to how many switches or sockets the box holds: single-gang for one device, double or multi-gang for more. Match the gang to your faceplate and device choice.

Choose a depth that fits the device and leaves room for the wiring behind it; deeper boxes help with bulky switches or extra cables. Check the box and device specs together.

Most follow common mounting standards so faceplates fit predictably, but depth and gang vary. Match the box to your switch, socket and Wall Plate Frame to be sure.

For outdoor or damp spots choose a sealed, weather-rated box and matching faceplate. For simple cable joins outdoors, a sealed Junction Box may be the better choice.
