It depends on the plastic. Many rigid plastics bond well with instant (cyanoacrylate) glue, while some flexible or low-energy plastics like polypropylene need a specialist adhesive. Always check material compatibility on the label before applying, and test on a hidden area first to be safe.

Quality insulating (electrical) tape is made to insulate and protect low-voltage connections and tidy cable runs. Make sure the connection itself is sound first and the tape is wrapped fully with no exposed conductor. For heavier cable work, pair it with proper cable tools for clean, secure joints.

Start with clean, dry, grease-free surfaces. A wipe with a suitable cleaner from our workshop chemicals removes oils that weaken bonds. Apply a thin even layer, press the parts together firmly and let the adhesive cure fully before stressing the joint. Good ventilation is recommended with strong glues.

Both stick on two sides, but mounting tape is usually thicker with a foam core, so it holds heavier items and bridges small gaps on uneven surfaces. Thin double-sided tape suits light, flat items. Check the surface and the weight you need to hold, and clean the area first for the best grip.

Many adhesives are fine for securing components and wires, but avoid getting glue on contacts, connectors or moving parts. Some instant glues can give off fumes that affect sensitive surfaces, so work in a ventilated area and check material compatibility. For fixing parts during repair, combine with your soldering tools.

Keep glues tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sun. Instant glues last longer if stored sealed and, for some, refrigerated once opened. Store tapes flat or on their roll out of heat so the adhesive does not dry out or ooze. Check the label for any specific storage notes.
