Collection: Fuse Holders

A fuse holder is a mechanical housing that securely retains a fuse in a circuit while providing safe, accessible contacts. Without a proper holder, a fuse cannot make reliable electrical contact and is unsafe to handle under load. The holder also makes it easy to inspect and replace a blown fuse quickly. The most common sizes are 5×20 mm and 6.3×32 mm glass or ceramic cartridge fuses, widely used in household electronics and industrial equipment. Automotive fuse holders typically suit blade fuses in mini (APM), standard (ATC) or maxi formats. Always verify the holder's stated fuse format before purchasing. Not necessarily safely. DC and AC arc characteristics differ significantly — a holder rated only for DC low-voltage may not safely interrupt an AC arc at mains voltage. Always use a holder rated explicitly for the voltage and current type (AC or DC) of your circuit. If you need broader circuit protection at mains level, also consider MCBs (Circuit Breakers) or Residual Current Devices (RCCB).

First, disconnect power completely. Cut the positive (live) conductor of the cable — never interrupt the neutral or earth. Strip the cut ends, insert them into the inline holder's terminals and tighten the screws or crimp connections securely. Always fit the inline holder as close to the power source as possible so the maximum length of cable is protected. Ensure the cable cross-section matches the holder's rating. A rewirable (or semi-enclosed) fuse holder uses a replaceable fuse wire wound through a ceramic carrier — common in older UK-style consumer units. A cartridge-type holder accepts a sealed glass or ceramic tube fuse that is simply swapped out when it blows. Both protect circuits from overcurrent, but they work differently. A fuse is a one-time device — once blown it must be replaced. An MCB (miniature circuit breaker) trips and can be reset manually, making it more convenient for circuits that suffer frequent transient overloads.
