The EL SPD-C20-1P-20kA is a Class C surge protection device for fixed electrical installations. It uses a semiconductor valve element that stays at infinitely high resistance under normal voltage and opens to divert excess voltage to earth during atmospheric or system-fault surges, then recloses once the voltage normalises.
