For urban commuting with street lighting, 100–400 lumens is usually sufficient. For unlit roads or trails, aim for 400–1000+ lumens. More lumens means a longer and wider beam, giving you more reaction time on fast descents or dark paths.

IPX6 means the light can withstand powerful water jets from any direction without being damaged. In practice, this covers heavy rain, puddle splashes, and muddy trail riding. It does not mean the light can be submerged, but for cycling conditions it offers very strong protection.

Battery life varies by mode and model. On steady (high) mode, expect 2–4 hours. On flash or strobe mode, runtime can extend to 6–10 hours. Always check the specs for each model. Carrying a Power Bank lets you top up on longer rides.

Steady mode provides a constant beam — best for seeing the road ahead on dark routes. Flash mode pulses at a regular interval and is highly visible to oncoming drivers, great for daytime urban riding. Strobe is a rapid irregular flash, maximising attention-grabbing visibility at the cost of higher battery use.

Most front bike lights include adjustable rubber mounts that fit standard handlebar diameters (22–35 mm), covering the majority of road, mountain, and city bikes. Check the mount specs before purchasing if you have an unusually wide or narrow handlebar.

A good front light is essential, but safety at night also depends on a rear light, reflective clothing, and responsible riding speed. On unlit roads, use a higher-lumen light (400+ lumens) to give yourself adequate visibility and reaction time. Always combine your front light with a Rear Bike Light.
