Timers & Time Switches for Lighting and Appliances
A timer (or time switch) automatically turns a circuit on and off at set times, so your lighting, heating or appliances run on a schedule instead of by hand. Whether you want shop signage to switch on at dusk, garden lights to follow a weekly program, or a water heater to run during off-peak hours, a good timer pays for itself in convenience and energy savings. At Lynk we stock a carefully selected range of digital and analog models for both DIN rail panels and plug sockets.
Digital vs analog timers
Analog timers use a rotating dial with pins or segments and are simple, cheap and reliable for daily on/off cycles. Digital timers offer multiple programs, weekday/weekend logic, random modes and battery backup that keeps the time during a power cut. Choose digital when you need precise minute-level control or different schedules per day.
DIN-rail vs plug-in
DIN-rail timers mount inside an electrical panel and switch a wired circuit, ideal for permanent installations. Plug-in timers sit between the wall socket and a device and need no wiring, perfect for lamps, pumps or chargers.
Check the load rating
Match the timer's switching rating (amps and watts) to your load. Inductive loads like motors and transformers draw more on start-up, so leave headroom. For motor circuits, also see our contactors and relays.
Astronomical and photocell options
Astronomical timers calculate sunrise and sunset for your location automatically. For pure light-level switching, browse sensors and photocells. Timers also pair well with outdoor lighting and the wider Lighting range, or smarter automation in Smart Home.
