MCBs (miniature circuit breakers) protect circuits from overload and short circuit, and unlike a fuse they simply reset once the fault is cleared. A carefully selected range here helps you fit out a consumer unit or replace a tripping breaker without guesswork.
Pick the right current rating
The amp rating (such as 6A, 10A, 16A, 20A, 32A) must match the cable and load it protects. Lighting circuits typically use lower ratings, sockets higher ones. Never fit a larger breaker just to stop tripping; that removes the protection.
Understand the trip curve
Type B trips quickly and suits resistive and lighting loads, while Type C tolerates higher inrush from motors and many appliances. Choosing the correct curve avoids nuisance trips while keeping the circuit safe.
