Yes — Toslink supports Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS, which covers most soundbar and home cinema setups. It does not carry Dolby Atmos or DTS:X object-based audio, which requires HDMI ARC/eARC.

A Toslink switcher allows multiple source devices to share one optical input on your amplifier or soundbar. You select the active source via a button or automatically. It eliminates the need to physically swap cables when switching between devices.

For a TV and soundbar on the same shelf or stand, 1–1.5 m is usually enough. For wall-mounted TVs with a receiver some distance away, 2–3 m or longer cables are recommended. Optical signal quality does not degrade significantly over normal home distances.
