Most under cabinet lights are designed for DIY installation. Battery-powered and USB-rechargeable models require no wiring at all — simply peel the adhesive backing or use the supplied screws, mount in position and switch on. Plug-in models need only a nearby socket. Hardwired versions require connecting to a fixed circuit, which should be carried out by a qualified electrician. For kitchen worktops and task lighting, a neutral to cool white in the range of 4000–5000 K is generally recommended. This colour temperature renders food colours accurately and makes it easy to see chopping boards, recipes and ingredients clearly. If you prefer a warmer, more inviting atmosphere — for example in an open-plan kitchen-diner — a warm white of 2700–3000 K can work well, especially when used alongside brighter ceiling fixtures. Yes. Puck lights and short LED bar lights are particularly popular for wardrobe interiors, shoe cabinets and kitchen base units. Battery-powered or motion-activated models are the most practical choice inside enclosed furniture, since they need no wiring. When fitting lights inside a closed cabinet, make sure there is adequate ventilation around the fixture and that any adhesive is applied to a clean, dry surface to ensure a secure hold. LED under cabinet lights generate very little heat compared to older halogen or fluorescent alternatives, making them safe for use above kitchen worktops and food preparation areas. They do not produce significant UV or infrared radiation. That said, always maintain any minimum clearance distances specified in the product instructions, and avoid positioning lights directly over open flames or in contact with flammable materials. Many under cabinet LED lights support dimming, but not all — it depends on the specific product and whether it includes a dimmable driver. For hardwired installations, a compatible leading-edge or trailing-edge dimmer switch is also required. Battery-powered models often have built-in touch or button controls for brightness adjustment without any additional hardware.
