A limit switch detects the presence or end-of-travel of a moving part and sends a signal to the control circuit. It's used to stop gates, reverse conveyors, count items or confirm a door is closed. See related control gear in the Contactors & Relays range.

Choose based on the motion: roller-lever for cams and passing objects, plunger for direct linear contact, and whisker or spring types for delicate or multi-direction sensing. Match the actuator to how the part approaches for reliable triggering.

NO (normally open) contacts close when the switch is actuated; NC (normally closed) contacts open when actuated. Many switches offer both so you can build either start or stop logic. Pick the configuration your control circuit needs.

For outdoor or washdown areas, look for at least IP65 to resist dust and water jets. Indoor, dry machinery can use a lower rating. A higher IP rating and a metal housing add durability where conditions are harsh.
