No — only LED lamps explicitly labelled as dimmable can be used with a dimmer switch. Non-dimmable LEDs connected to a dimmer will typically flicker, buzz or fail prematurely. Leading-edge dimmers cut power at the beginning of each AC cycle and were designed for resistive loads like incandescent and halogen lamps. Trailing-edge dimmers cut at the end of the cycle and produce less electrical noise, making them the preferred choice for LED lamps and electronic low-voltage (ELV) transformers. Flickering and buzzing with LED dimmers are usually caused by one of three issues: the dimmer is not compatible with your LED lamp type, the total wattage of connected lamps falls below the dimmer's minimum load rating, or the LED lamp itself is not dimmable. Start by checking that both the dimmer and the lamp are rated for LED dimming and that your total lamp wattage sits within the dimmer's stated load range. In principle a dimmer replaces a standard single-gang switch using the same backbox and wiring connections. However, many modern dimmers require a neutral wire in addition to live and switched-live — check the product datasheet to confirm before ordering. If your wiring does not include a neutral (common in older Greek installations), you will need either a two-wire dimmer or professional rewiring.
