Collection: F-Type Coaxial Connectors

F-type connectors are the standard coaxial connector for satellite TV systems, cable TV distribution and some terrestrial aerial applications. They screw onto the F socket of an LNB, satellite receiver, multiswitch, wall plate or splitter, providing a secure, low-loss connection for the coaxial signal cable.

Compression F connectors use a compression tool to create a watertight mechanical seal around the cable, making them the preferred choice for outdoor and long-term installations. Crimp connectors use a crimping tool and are widely used in professional installs but may be slightly less weatherproof. Both provide better signal performance than basic twist-on connectors.

Compression connectors require a coaxial compression tool (a simple, inexpensive hand tool). Crimp connectors need a coaxial crimping tool. Twist-on connectors require no tools and can be fitted by hand, making them convenient for quick repairs or testing — though they are less suitable for permanent outdoor installations. Good cable preparation with a coax cable stripper makes installation much easier for any type.

A correctly fitted, high-quality F connector introduces minimal signal loss. Corroded, loose or improperly fitted connectors are among the leading causes of signal problems — pixelation, signal dropout, or complete loss. For best results, use gold-plated or corrosion-resistant connectors outdoors and ensure the cable centre conductor makes clean, full contact in the connector body.

Yes. While F connectors originated in satellite applications, they are widely used in cable TV distribution, some terrestrial antenna systems (particularly in new installations that use F-socket wall plates), and CATV systems. IEC connectors (push-in type) remain more common for terrestrial TV wall sockets in Europe, but F-type is increasingly used for its superior locking and weather performance.

Standard F connectors are sized for RG6 coaxial cable (6.8mm outer diameter), which is the most widely used cable for satellite and cable TV in Europe.
