Yes, a higher voltage rating is fine and often safer, as long as the µF value matches. Never go below the original voltage rating. The microfarad value, however, must stay the same.

Common signs are a motor that hums but won't start, overheats, runs slow or trips. A bulging or leaking capacitor body is a clear failure. Replace with the same rating and check wiring in Power & Cables.
