Power relays handle moderate loads and many control tasks, while contactors are built for higher motor and heating currents with arc-suppression features. For heavy three-phase loads, choose a Contactor instead of a relay.

The coil voltage must match your control supply, commonly 12V or 24V DC for automation and 230V AC for mains control. Check the relay's label and your control source before wiring to avoid a mismatch.

SPDT (single pole, double throw) switches one circuit between two outputs; DPDT switches two circuits at once. More poles let one relay control several circuits together. Pick the arrangement your control logic needs.
