NH fuses (also called HRC or high-rupturing-capacity fuses) are the IEC-standardised industrial type with blade-contact ends in defined sizes from 000 to 3. Knife-blade is the contact style — the metal blades that slide into the fuse holder clips. The two terms often refer to the same component; confirm the physical size and current rating match your holder before ordering from our NH & Knife-Blade Fuses range.

First, match the physical size (000, 00, 1, 2, or 3) to the size of the fuse holder or fuse-switch base already fitted. Second, select a current rating at or below the cable's rated current and sized for the load. The physical sizes are not interchangeable, so check the markings on your holder before buying.

The gG (general purpose) characteristic means the fuse provides full-range protection, operating on both overloads and short circuits. It is the most common type for industrial distribution circuits. The alternative gL is also a full-range type focused on cable protection and is electrically equivalent in most applications. Both types are available in our NH & Knife-Blade Fuses range.

For a standard three-phase 400 V AC industrial installation you need fuses rated at least 400 V AC (or 500 V AC for an extra safety margin). The rated voltage is stamped on the fuse end-cap. Using a fuse with a lower voltage rating than the system voltage is unsafe and non-compliant.

No. NH fuses must only be inserted or removed with the circuit fully isolated and de-energised. Always use a proper fuse puller or insulated handle tool, and follow your site's lockout/tagout procedures. Working live on knife-blade fuse contacts is extremely dangerous.

Breaking capacity (rated in kA) is the maximum fault current the fuse can safely interrupt without rupturing. If the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point exceeds the fuse's breaking capacity, the fuse may fail violently. Always check the installation's prospective short-circuit current value and select a fuse from our NH & Knife-Blade Fuses range rated above that value.
