SKB lead acid batteries are recombination (VRLA) batteries. Despite being described as hermetic, this construction technology allows the SK4 to perform approximately 200–300 cycles at 100% depth of discharge, and up to 1000 cycles at 30% of its capacity.

Charging must be performed with a constant-voltage charger following exactly the voltage values stated on the battery label. The battery must not be left discharged after use and must be recharged immediately after depletion to avoid irreversible deterioration.
