The SK12-9 is a valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) recombination battery. This construction recombines the gases produced during charging back into water, so the battery is sealed and maintenance-free — no need to check or top up electrolyte. Despite the hermetic labelling, it is a recombination design.

Charging must be performed with a constant-voltage charger strictly following the values on the battery label. Incorrect voltage causes immediate deterioration. The battery must be recharged promptly after use and must not be left in a discharged state.
